This elegant example of Modernism stands apart from other buildings quite literally, surrounded by green lawns and driveways and overlooking the Rideau River. It was designed in 1956 by D.G. McKinstry (1905 - 1979), who was the Chief Architect for the CBC's Engineering Branch. It served as head office for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation from its completion in 1964 to 1997. Now it houses a branch of the Department of National Defence.

This building has been designated as a classified heritage building.

The information above has been graciously provided by James Ashby of the Heritage Conservation Program of PWGSC.
