Smith Carter Architects and Engineers Incorporated is one of Canada's leading integrated design practices. We provide professional services in architecture, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering, interior design, landscape architecture and urban planning throughout our offices in Winnipeg, Calgary and Ottawa, Canada and Atlanta, USA.

 

We are currently seeking an Architectural Intern who has a strong sense of accountability, possesses superior collaboration skills and demonstrates a learning mindset. Working closely with senior principals, the architectural intern will participate in concept design development of leading edge projects as part of a project design team.

 

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·         Performs various architectural tasks with contributions to solutions in a team setting from programming and concept development through construction documentation.

·         Assists on larger projects or leads smaller ones in coordination and collaboration with other disciplines to develop solutions in an integrated team process.

·         Works under the direction and supervision of more senior personnel on complex projects.

·         Works independently on smaller projects.

·          Coordinates with client representatives and other team members to achieve client’s goals while adhering to project design intent.

 

Qualifications:

·         Professional degree in architecture.

·         3 – 5 years of architectural design experience.

·         Demonstrated strong skills in creative design solutions.

·         Demonstrated desire to successfully meet client program, design quality, cost and schedule requirements, and bring forth innovative ideas.

·         Intermediate to advanced computer skills in AutoCAD 2009, and 3D modeling software.

·         Knowledge of BIM and Revit skills is an asset.

·         Ability to effectively work in a team atmosphere.

·         PWGSC Security Clearance will be required as a condition of employment.

We are currently seeking an Intermediate Project Architect to develop strong holistic solutions and participate in the programming, design, and contract documentation for complex projects in our Ottawa office.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·         Responsible as a team leader on small projects and as a team member on medium and major sized projects

·         Responsible for comprehensive delivery of project deliverables through all project phases.

·         Responsible for the development and resolution of complex design and technical issues.

·         Responsible for the integration of the architectural solution with all other building systems.

·         Conceptualizes & directs creative design solutions that align the deliverables of a multi-disciplinary team with a clearly stated design intent and client requirements.

·         Effectively delegates tasks to other team members, supervise and mentor junior personnel.

·         Responsible for working in an interdisciplinary team in the preparation and delivery of project deliverables using sustainable design and IDP principles.

·         Establishes coordination meetings and meetings with the team, clients and various governing agencies.

 

Qualifications:

·         Professional degree in architecture.

·         5 – 10 years of architectural experience in institutional project types

·         Preference will be given to those individuals with experience on projects with construction value in excess of $30 million.

·         LEED AP preferred.

·         Demonstrated experience and ability to successfully develop client programs and design while meeting quality, cost and schedule requirements.

·         Knowledge of architectural principles and practices, design, codes and standards, building/material science, specifications and construction techniques.

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a focus on effective collaboration and integration.

·         Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2009 or higher.

·         Knowledge of BIM and Revit  skills desirable.

·         Bilingual in French and English an asset.

·         PWGSC Security Clearance will be required as a condition of employment.
