| Healthcare Learning Event (PITS)Start Date: 4/13/2010 Additional Information: Click here DescriptionDear ORSA Friends, We have two excellent presentations scheduled for this year's PITS. To register, please click on the link above beside "Additional Information". Please see the topics and biographical information about our speakers below: 1:00 p.m. Extreme Makeover: The Long-Term Care Edition Baby boomers are changing everything… including long-term care. Conventional thinking on housing and support services for elders is evolving in part through government-funded programs for redevelopment and in response to consumer expectations. Living in an environment that promotes well-being is important at any age. Being engaged in life beyond four walls stimulates and builds connections between people of all ages. This presentation will challenge you to think differently about the buildings and communities in which we are all growing old. Presented by: Julie Bessant Pelech is a consulting gerontologist and Principal of Bessant Pelech Associates Inc. Within the fields of gerontology and long-term care, her consulting practice focuses exclusively on the planning, development and evaluation of community support programs, housing and homes for elders. For over 20 years, she has assisted governments, not-for-profit organizations and private sector companies across Canada in meeting the needs of elders. Julie holds an Honours Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Cooperative Program), Certificate in Gerontology and a Master of Arts (Sociology/Gerontology) from the University of Waterloo. 3:00 p.m. Building With The End in Mind: The Case for Evidence-Based Design in Healthcare - Healthcare Challenges - Evidence-based Design Model - Creating a business case for EBD - Next Steps: Accreditation in EBD Presented by: Phyllis Goetz, PDAC, EDAC, Global Director, Nurture by Steelcase – with over 25 years of healthcare related experience; Phyllis is responsible for sales, focusing on serving the needs of the Architectural and Design Community and as a liaison with the leading healthcare network organizations.
